June 22nd, 2007Where can a single gal go dancing in Yuma?
June 17th, 2007I was recently asked “Where can a single gal go dancing in Yuma?” As a married man for the last 25 years, I am certainly unqualified to answer this question. I thought that perhaps a Google search would bring up some suggestions, but other than local dance studios and strip clubs, I came up empty. I suspect that the questioner already knows how to dance and probably is not interested in performing lap dances.
Using the Yuma sun to save on energy bills.
June 12th, 2007I have been thinking a lot lately of ways to lower our summer utility bills. I have looked at some different options and wanted some feedback from others on what works and what does not. Closing off areas we do not use such as the spare bedroom and the work shop helps a lot. This pretty much involves closing a few HVAC vents and shutting off the Air conditioner in the work shop. Of course, I had to move a work bench into the house for the summer and I have less room to work in but the cost savings is substantial.
Passport fiasco is just the beginning.
June 9th, 2007The recent implementation of laws requiring travelers to nearby countries to have passports is blowing up in the face of the government. Due to the U.S. Governments inability to process passport applications in a timely manner, the rules for passport requirements for air travelers had to recently be partially suspended. Â The backlog of passport applications has caused the time to process an application and actually issue a passport to more than triple. This in turn has caused disruptions to the travel plans of millions of American travellers.
Yuma County grants eminent domain powers to the City of Yuma
June 3rd, 2007Recently, the Yuma County Board of Supervisors granted the City of Yuma the ability to use eminent domain to secure property outside the city limits. Although the number of parcels actually impacted is relatively small, county residents had best take notice of the actions of the BOS. The strategy of the City of Yuma in dealing with county residents, and the Yuma County BOS endorsement of these actions should serve as a wake up call to all county landowners.
