Community Apathy in Yuma

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

I have seen a lot of comments recently bemoaning the lack of community involvement in local politics. In fact, it seems that only a few regularly participate in or comment on local affairs. I sometimes wonder if this serves as tacit approval for the status quo. Another thought is that the local citizenry feel that their input will not be considered orvalued in the political process.

Yuma County grants eminent domain powers to the City of Yuma

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Recently, the Yuma County Board of Supervisors granted the City of Yuma the ability to use eminent domain to secure property outside the city limits. Although the number of parcels actually impacted is relatively small, county residents had best take notice of the actions of the BOS. The strategy of the City of Yuma in dealing with county residents, and the Yuma County BOS endorsement of these actions should serve as a wake up call to all county landowners.

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

Well I see that PHX now has their new backscatter scanners up and running. These scanners are able to see through clothes and display high detail images of a body. Due to privacy concerns, it seems software degradations that supposedly will keep the most intimate details from being apparent are included.

E-Mail Scams dupe the stupid, the very stupid.

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Recently, Thomas Katona, the treasure of Alcona County in Michigan was charged for embezzling funds in order to send the money to Nigerian Advance Fee Scammers http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/18/us/18scam.html). How a public official could be duped into such a stupid action, is up to voters of Alcona County to decide. After all they reelected him twice as county treasure after he pled guilty to fraud after falsifying documents for his clients.
