I was recently asked “Where can a single gal go dancing in Yuma?” As a married man for the last 25 years, I am certainly unqualified to answer this question. I thought that perhaps a Google search would bring up some suggestions, but other than local dance studios and strip clubs, I came up empty. I suspect that the questioner already knows how to dance and probably is not interested in performing lap dances.
Rather than leave the question unanswered, perhaps other Yuma residents could offer some suggestions. In the meantime, I can suggest that MCAS Yuma brings many soldiers to town that would jump at a chance to dance while they are out on the town. My wife in her younger years would often frequent clubs that had a lot of military clientele. Most of these soldiers had a wife or girlfriend back home and were not looking for anything more than a few turns around the dance floor. She found that there was always a great choice of dance partners that were looking to have a little fun while enjoying a night out. Maybe this would satisfy the need for a some dancing while allowing a lonely soldier to have a little fun!
The LZ bar and grill might be just the place that the lady is looking for. The LZ (Landing Zone) is located right next door to the Harley Davidson shop at 2175 Harley Drive. Near Gila Ridge Road, between Pacific Ave and Ave 3E.
Excellent question! This just came up in a recent conversation I had…but none of us had an answer. We were discussing how (many moons ago) we DID have ‘places’ to go: The Pub, Johnny’s Other Place, The Back Room, The Saddle Club, The Stardust, The Chilton (their lounge used to bring in live entertainment), The SkyChief. See, we actually had choices! But, despite all of Yuma’s progress, I’m not aware of even ONE place to frequent now. (And ‘live entertainment, as in a band performing 6 nights out of 7 on a regular basis is a concept of history). Hmmm, maybe there’s an entrepeneur out there that will fill the gap?
My question is where can a musician go to find employment? I am new to Yuma and am a solo artist(guitar and vocals) doing country, folk and 70-80s rock and don’t seem to be able to find many places to play!
Paul, send me some information and I will set you up for a listing on the yumazone entertainment page. You should also check with the various senior parks in town as they will be looking for talent for the snow birds. Similarly check the lounges at Martinez Lake and Fisher’s Landing, they may be hunting for winter time talent.
