Annexation Vote Sept 11

With one week to go until the voters of Yuma decide if it is wise to annex 92 square miles to be within the City limits. It is a bit ironic that those most impacted by the move will not be voting on the issue. One thing you can bet on is that if the annexation vote passes that further legal actions will be taken by those opposed to the Yuma takeover. This will mean even more tax dollars being spent trying to defend this questionable annexation.

As of yet, the true reasons behind the proposed annexation are not known to the voters. Historically such annexations are an attempt to increase the cities tax base or to shift the decision making responsibility to the city. In this case, the voters are being told that protection of open lands and military bases require the annexation. How these lands will be better protected by the city has not been well explained, and the cities altruistic dedication to these goals is questionable.

The real question facing voters is: are you willing to assume the costs involved in the annexation without knowing the benefits? Bigger is not necessarily better but it invariably costs more!
